Dr. Seuss Night at R.C. Waters Elementary School
Students at R.C. Waters Elementary School in Oak Harbor, Ohio enjoyed a week full of fun to celebrate the birth of Dr. Suess. Theodor Suess Giesel was born in 1905 in Massachusetts. His career began with articles and illustrations published in magazines, such as Vanity Fair and LIFE. Giesel and his wife moved to California, where they purchased an observation tower. He would spend more than eight hours in the tower writing children's books such as Horton Hears a Who and If I Ran a Zoo. Dr. Seuss inspired millions of children to want to learn.
Like Dr. Seuss, the project leaders of the Financial Literacy promotional campaign wanted to inspire children to invest in their future. To prove that keeping money on the mind and learning about finances can be fun, the story of "Dollar Duck" was created. Allyson Croy, Trevor Sievert, and Tessa Tyburski wrote a story about a young duck making smart decisions in regards of how to manage his money. The book was then illustrated into a coloring book and manufactured by Oak Harbor DECA. On Dr. Seuss Night at R.C. Waters, DECA members volunteered during the book drive and handed out the "Dollar Duck" interactive storybooks. The students of R.C. Waters could not wait to begin coloring their books and reading about how to save their money!
