Charity Lock In To Lock Out Diabetes
Oak Harbor DECA held a charity lock-in at the high school on Sunday, March 8th, 2015. With the help of approximately 160 Oak Harbor Middle School students, DECA raised $800 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Project leaders Lauren Dials, Dillon Pollard, and Ashley Roose educated students about type 1 diabetes and how JDRF is helping to find a cure.
The students engaged in various activities including dodgeball, basketball, mattball, bingo, and computer stimulation games. There was also a photo booth that was hosted by a local entrepreneur and DECA member, Emily Rodenhauser. Oak Harbor Middle School students donated a small amount to be a part of the photo booth. “Thanks to the promotional efforts of the Oak Harbor DECA chapter, the activity was an overwhelming success. By exposing the campaign to younger students we were able to instill a sense of social responsibility in the youth of our community.” stated Chapter President, Dillon Pollard.
This event is one of several activities designed by Oak Harbor DECA members to inform, educate, and involve students and community members in the 2015 DECA Community Service Project titled “Insulin is not Cure” For more information, contact Oak Harbor DECA at 419-898-6216 Ext. 351.
