The Penta-Oak Harbor DECA chapter has been working on a campaign for the past few weeks trying to tackle the issue of depression. The chatper has teamed up with the national organization known as Project Semicolon to do this. Mrs.Scott (along with a few chapter members) have been in contact with founder, Amy Bleuel, who has been phenominally cooperative and very helpful! Trevor Sievert, Luke Giesler, and Emily Rohdenhauser are leading this project and attempting to bring it to monumental levels. They've already began the campaign on a small scale by creating flyers to post around the high school, and they have also created a Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook page. But the three want to take it beyond that. Along with these small strides, the Oak Harbor DECA chapter has began to sell promotional t-shirts for this campaign. If you are interested, they are $10 each and in order to get one contact the Oak Harbor DECA chapter. Sales will end on March the 12th. All profits made from these shirts will be donated to Project Semicolon. But even with all of these activities being done, Trevor, Luke, and Emily believe more can be done. So, beginning the second week of March they will launch what they call "Project Semicolon Week." This will be done at Oak Harbor High School and will contain many different promotional activities. These activities include a banner signing on Monday, giving away temporary tattoos on Tuesday, Facetiming with Amy Bleuel on Wedensday, a Twitter contest on Thursday, and finally a t-shirt day on Friday where all students who bought a promotional shirt will wear them in order to show support for the campaign. But they won't stop there either. After everything is done and organized from Project Semicolon Week, as one final promotional activity, Trevor, Luke, and Emily will have sit down interview with two victims of depression. These interviews will be recorded and posted to the Project Semicolon: Oak Harbor Edition Facebook page. So be on the lookout for that. These three students have been very enthusiastic about the campaign, and have worked extremely hard to spread their campaign message. Trevor Sievert had this to say on the subject...

"It's an amazing cause and one that is very close to my heart. At this point, it's not about qualifying for nationals, all though that would be nice. All that matters is that we help other people understand what depression is, what they can do to help, and to promote Project Semicolon throughout Oak Harbor. I really do hope that we are changing the way people see depression, because the more people we have to fight against depression, the bigger impact we'll make."
